Angels in the bright star light We were making our way down route 3 Heading for a weekend gig with friends, Zeppelin was singing bout “Whole Lotta Love” And I was looking for my soul to mend It was the headlong days of a younger time When my step had bounce and everything rhymed Freedom was the backdrop and love was the cure And I still believed we would always endure. Oh Babe come over here We’re going to put away all of our fears We’re going to fly together tonight Going to see the angels in the bright star light We played until the moon went down We played until the cows came home, We played until the voices blended Blended into one We played until our hearts were lifted We played until we were one big smile We played until the Saints came marching Marching all the way home Oh baby come over here We’re going to put away all of our fears We’re going to fly together tonight Gonna see the angels in the bright star light Looking back at those carefree days Thinking that the music would never end Putting off the mortgage and the grown up ways Playing in the now with my good old friends No regrets , nothing to score Waking from the daydream that it’s all about more, Looking for the days I can call my own Feeling my good fortune that I’m not alone

Whoa here baby, Come over tonight Whoa here baby, Come near Come to your lover to make it all right You've got nothing to fear We're going to touch, we'll go around round round No time to stop, don't even touch the ground Rolling all together in the midnight moon Howling at the shadows singing out our tune Play with your lover but don't play rough Play with your lover till you both had enough We're going to whirl, we're gonna dance all night Come home, your lover's gonna hold you tight Hey ho I want to get a hold of you girl, No no you can't say no Come to your lover love and don't be late My heart is burning please don't hesitate I need a kiss I need to hold you close I need your lovin' baby you're the most You got me spinnin' , got me walkin' on air Can't even figure what I'm doin' here You make me want to say sweet things to you Words like I love you girl and I'll be true All I can hear is the sound of your name Callin' out a longing that is so hard to tame Hey ho I want to get a hold of you girl No no , you can't say no

Who’s Holding You? Well I’ve been lovin’ you baby, in my dreams I miss you so much darlin’, I just wanna scream When you go out on the town doll, You know it ain’t right Don’t care to argue with you girl, come over tonight. Who’s holdin’ you? Who’s holdin’ you? Who’s holdin’ You in his arms tonight? Who’s holdin’ you? Who’s holdin’ you? Who’s holdin’ You in his arms tonight? I wonder how many heartaches this body can take When you don’t give me your love girl, my whole body aches Can’t tell if I’m comin’ or goin’, day seems like night Don’t run away from me baby, don’t turn off your light Who’s holdin’ you? Who’s holdin’ you? Who’s holdin’ You in his arms tonight? Who’s holdin’ you? Who’s holdin’ you? Who’s holdin’ You in his arms tonight? I seen you talkin’ with him girl and acting real nice The empty way that I’m feeling don’t beg no advice Can’t tell if I’m coming or going, day seems like night Don’t run away from me baby, don’t turn off your light. Who’s holdin’ you? Who’s holdin’ you? Who’s holdin’ You in his arms tonight? Who’s holdin’ you? Who’s holdin’ you? Who’s holdin’ You in his arms tonight? Well you’ll come back to me baby and knock on my door You’ll tell me you’ve been a fool now, you hope I ain’t sore, You say that you’ll be so true now, you’ll never let go How come you leave me like this girl, when I need you so. Who’s holdin’ you? Who’s holdin’ you? Who’s holdin’ You in his arms tonight? Who’s holdin’ you? Who’s holdin’ you? Who’s holdin’ You in his arms tonight?

I’ve got a deadline for freedom And it’s coming up soon I’m talking deadline for freedom Stand back and give me room Don’t want no chains on my body Can’t take no two bit demands You know I’m billed out and ready I’ve got to start making plans You try and tell me we could go and roll back the time You try and tell me we could forget You say the future’s nothing more than trying to decide To give up ever having regrets I’m looking straight down the barrel And I ain’t shaking at all There ain’t no time left to quarrel Lady we just hit the wall This ain’t no heart for the taking Don’t have no manner to please Don’t sing your sweet songs to me girl Can’t take you always playing the tease I went to get my future told at midnight last night The gypsy woman told me the news She looked into my eyes and said you’re single again Some you win but this one you lose I’ve got a deadline for freedom I’m moving right down the line I’m talking deadline for freedom Can’t throw away any more time.

It was trick or treat night, no goblins in sight, when my baby came over to play She knocked on my door, I said what you here for, She said I got tricks to display Now some people say I’m too choosey, And others say I ain’t nice But if she’s comin’ on over this house, man she’d better think twice She entered the room like a cold slap of doom and proceeded to put on a show I hate to complain, but your kiss ain’t the same, since the herb man been comin’ round your door. Now baby I ain’t that lonely, that you could look good to me, I wouldn’t mind goin’ a few more rounds, if you’d promise that you’d set me free Well the words flew by then and a ruckus began that made the air crackle with heat Take your dog and get lost, I ain’t payin’ the cost, that’s one thing I’ll never repeat Now the air was cold as an iceberg and the moon was shining so bright, That when she stepped on outta the house, she froze and turned back into night Into night , into night into night, she froze and turned back into night.

Sitting here high as a kite, Lonely and just out of sight Waiting for the time when the colors and the sounds come together again Lost in the world of my dreams, looking for the plot line that could save my esteem, Wary in the sight of a lover who says she's caught in between My baby tries to do me so fine, the only thing she won't is be mine, No time to run for cover, try to grab another lover , think it's time to resign Now sometime my baby leave town, I start feeling lonely like there's no one around, The bottom looks so deep , tears start to falling, they don't never touch down. Looks like you've been planning to go, Summer's gone and we lost the flow, The laughter seems restrained when the future goes unnamed and there ain't no more to show.

My baby come to see me She walk kind of slow Her body walky-talkin’ Her voice way down low She said I’ll meet you Come up to see you I took the steps, She took the elevator Verse Lovin’ Ain’t the only joy that I found It seems to do nice till the others come round The space is made for movin’ Don’t cut your own line Baby don’t you know don't you know lovin’s so real It’s more than hi hello how are you how do you feel It comes from livin’ And when you’re givin’ The world is one You just don’t get any refunds Memories are deceiving Don’t count for a thing The only way to make it is right here just take wing And you and I will fly Just let the music begin My baby ain’t good lookin’, that’s okay with me Her lovin’s something special, she’s got a degree And when she starts out, her body jumpin’ A fire burnin’ she just started something Oh lover come to me come hide in my breast We’ll get there together and leave all the rest The quiet night comes easing to the soul hide-away

Taxman Blues Walking to town, Going to see the taxman today Walking to town, Hoping everything is okay The money’s all gone, I’m going to sing these blues away W-2 just seemed to disappear 1099 nowhere to be found around here I’ve got no accountant , no paper trail for this year Uncle Sam Go my bail Please don’t put me in jail Uncle Sam, Give me some time I didn’t do no crime I’m doing my part , Buying things to get by No offshore banking, no loopholes apply I’m just a working stiff, Just an average guy Don’t need to itemize, No tax havens for me Nothing to write off, no Swiss accounts or trustees I’m barely making ends meet, Mr. Revenuer hear my plea Uncle Sam, please understand, I didn't mean you no harm Uncle Sam, I'm in a jam Please don't sound the alarm Don't own a hedge fund , No company cars in my life Very few deductions, just the cats and my wife, This trickle down economy has been such trouble and strife I'm walking to town, gonna see the taxman today Walking to town, hoping everything is okay Money's all gone, gonna sing these blues away

Babe, Come easy to me, Don’t tell me that your master called I’m beat and I’m mean and hungry I Need for you and me to talk I miss the touch of gladness when I hold you close The way you look at me and say you care When evening comes , I want your laughter near, No one to have to ask about where Babe, come over tonight Bring along your dancing shoes We’ll prance till the broad daylight, Then Go and buy the Sunday news The headlines won’t be easy to take , the truth is seldom bought for free And when your knight in armor comes to take you away, I’ll tell you how I thought it might be She came to dance the night away and all I had was half of what I hold She stayed and showed me her soft touch, a night of love I got to behold No promise of tomorrow ever crossed her lips, nor rumor of more things to come The time for choosing had come and gone, the day won’t hold another sun. I loved her in the morning, her brightness caught me half in stride At home just to have seen her For eyes of love have no where else to hide Our bodies offered total communion The souls of me and you so intertwined Alive within a world of sad confusion Two spirits looking for the light. Repeat first verse:

The man that I am named for is Albert Little George The last child of eleven, A hard life he did forge He grew to be a giant, a man of height and breadth A sunbaked life of toil from birth until his death He hunted game and plowed the fields and learned to read and write Could tell the time of day by gauging the sun’s height He married a little Dutch girl, Her parents not so glad For this was the boy who went dancing and had no mom or dad Chorus/Bridge The fields are hot and dusty, Rains no where around Hard to make a living on this dry ground They raised two kids on those western plains, Taught them the meaning of work They taught the meaning of never give up, of never saying you hurt. He plowed the fields with mules and prayed for rain at night It was hand to mouth and dog eat dog and the money always tight The Fields are hot and dusty, Rain a distant dream Hard to make a living in this routine. From that Texas dust bowl, He made his way from birth He worked the lands of others, he plowed their barren earth , Bent but never broken he worked to dusk each day, The weevil stole his profits, his reward was little pay. The fields are hot and dusty, the cattle looking thin, Not much more than bone and skin In the spring he’d break a mule to plow , and sell him in the Fall He’d save on feed in winter , buy staples for the long haul I knew him as a boy at eight, can hear his laughter ring Can see him standing tall and brown, the giant star sun king The fields are hot and dusty, the rains a memory, Dear God , won’t you hear my plea

about

When I look back over how "Down From the Mountains" was born, it all borders on the miraculous. The music itself spans two very different periods in a lifetime. The musicians who came together to make this did so in deep generosity and the spirit of musical camaraderie that is found in few other places. My sound engineer graciously offered his recording expertise and his sound studio over the past two years because of his belief in the project and his love of all things music. None of this would have happened without him.
