Nothin’ But a Miracle Lyrics : Barbara Bald and Chris George, Music , Chris George Strolling down the dirt road with a song in my head Come up to the crossing of the old creek bed Hear the distant voices of coyotes’ howl See the silent shadow of the great horned owl I’ve been by the river skippin’ stones, wantin’ and a waitin’ for some time alone. Can’t imagine nothin’ better than this, just another day that can’t be missed. (Chorus) Turtles are a baskin’ on the logs Watching for the tadpoles to turn into frogs Can’t say that I noticed all this before Nature’s invitation right outside my door Cows, they are a’grazin in the field, chewin’ and a’blinkin’ at a sun-kissed meal. Hawks, they are a soarin’ high above, driftin’ on the thermals and stirrin’ up love. (chorus) Fish, they are a’leapin’ in the brook. If I weren’t so lazy, I’d bait my hook. How’d I get so lucky to have this day, nothin’ but a miracle is what I say. Chorus: "Join me by the river as the day nods to the night" “Listen for the loon call at the dimming of the light” "Laugh and sing a joyful tune of life's undying beat" "Take my hand and dance with me as all my cares retreat".

Fear of Drowning: Chris George When I was a kid, I was afraid of drowning I was afraid that I would run out of air I’d dream at night about my submarine Crashing out in the deep water somewhere I lived my life next to the ocean deep I traveled overseas in boats I swam across the channel to the far off islands And I hung out by the coast So why hang out with the grim reaper Why live with worry nipping at your heels, There is something mesmerizing in the face of one’s fear That makes this life a little more real. I’d push off in my kayak towards a big fog bank Relying on my compass to get through If my calculations were a little bit off I’d be in big trouble , I’d be screwed So now I travel solo on the deep blue sea I paddle through the crashing waves Facing present danger makes me feel alive Facing my fears is how I misbehave. Repeat Chorus:

Going Home 03:04
I’m Going Home I’m going home, I’m gonna meet my maker I’m going home, still got time I’m going home, don’t call the undertaker Still got some things to do before I cross the line I’ve got nothing, I’m saving up my money for I’ve got nothing, more to give away Ain’t no fun, hanging round and keeping score Maybe I’ll get to heaven as a stowaway I’m going down, a little more each day I’m going down, rage against the night I’m going down, no time to plot my getaway I’m going to fight against the fading of the light No need to worry, we’re gonna make the journey No need to worry , it’’ll set you free No need to hurry, don’t need to be a nominee The home I’m goin’ has a place for refugees I ain’t saying it’s gonna be a cakewalk Ain’t saying , I’ve got no doubts, I’m just saying, there won’t be any double talk No smoke and mirrors and no one copping out I ain’t worried bout a little brimstone I ain’t worried, bout a little fire I’m going to write, write it on my tombstone I’m going to heaven , going to join the holy choir

Homeless Blues Chris George (Verse 1 and 2 ) I went walking down Russell Street, listening to the sound of my shuffling feet I had no dinner, I had no dough, Maybe catch a ride to the bus depot It’s been two days since I ate a meal, I’ve lost my steam , I feel surreal My mind’s been blurry, not so sharp these days, I keep having’ dreams about big buffets (Chorus) Have you got some alms for the poor, am I so easy to ignore Do you greet me with goodwill, I’ve got a story that I tell, but the truth is sadder still (Verse 3 and 4) I showed promise as a kid, made mom proud with what I did Three tours later, I’m not so sure, I’ve lost all sense of being secure Life’s been tough since coming home, I drink too much and I’m all alone Losing jobs and killing time, friends now lost that once were mine Have you got some spare loose change? You look at me like I’m deranged Do you greet me with goodwill? I’ve got a story that I tell , but the truth is sadder still. (Verse 5 and 6) Where will I go to sleep tonight? South street bridge or the graveyard site The weather’s changing for the worse, maybe try to get in at the church I bunked with Jimmy at the aqueduct, we shared a bottle of two buck chuck He snored real bad but the rain was worse, It looks like I’ve been double cursed (Chorus 2) Have you got some spare loose change? You look at me like I’m deranged Do you greet me with goodwill? I’ve got a story that I tell , but the truth is sadder still.

Take Me Back to Louisian Chris George G D When I was a little Girl, I Danced the Streets of New Orleans D G I played my games with kings and queens , And built my castles High, I’d promenade down Basin Street, The Music never seemed to stop , The ships all moored down by the dock, The beignets tasting sweet, (chorus) Oh take me back to Louisian The place where I was born and raised The place where all of this began, The place where I still feel embraced We two-stepped down by Bertha’s Place And sang the songs of Dixieland, We hung out by the old band stand And dined on Jambalaya I dressed one year as Queen Marie We pranced and sang for Mardi Gras You could hear the bands in Arkansas We stayed out all night long (chorus) I’d sashay down by the Saturn Bar My friends they all looked out for me We strayed beneath the fleur de lis, I wore my new red shoes. The days just seemed like fairy tales Easter Time and Halloween Fireworks and Gumbo Queens, My world was make believe (Chorus)

Black Dress 03:39
Black Dress. By Chris George She wore a black dress With turquoise earrings and those sparkling eyes I felt like such a mess Could barely say my name, I felt hypnotized She seemed so self-assured Like the world could end tomorrow and she would still carry on I felt so uninsured Like a knight in tinfoil before a battle at dawn I gathered my emotions and stepped outside, I took a deep breath and tried to take it in stride Girl I’ve got you in my head and I don’t know what to do My mind is racing , I’m mesmerized and all I see is you I ambled back inside, I asked her to dance and we strolled on the floor She seemed preoccupied, Like she couldn’t quite remember what she came here for And then a slow song played, Johnny Mathis crooned,I put my hand on her waist Mars was in retrograde, and the look in her eyes said my hope was misplaced I knew it wasn’t meant to be, I tried not to care, Dancing cheek to cheek with her perfume in the air “Girl I’ve got you….” (chorus) We walked back to her chair, She looked down on the ground, I thanked her for the dance My pride in disrepair, I wondered if I’d ever even had a chance. “I knew it wasn’t meant to be….” (Chorus)

The Blessing Way. By Chris George It was the first night of the Blessing Way Her brothers drove from Guadalupe She came back home to say good-bye for now She came back home to slip away She’d joined the army with her oldest friend Was bound for travel overseas She came back home to taste the sweet embrace She knew there were no guarantees Now bless this one who is sung over Oh , Bless this one, we ask today Carry this soul across the river And bring her home in health we pray Tonight the family came together To Mark the sacred blessing way, The healer knew the ceremony He knew the songs and what to say He’d helped his father cross the four winds home He sang the songs of healing grace He left his presence in each mud brick home He left each Hogan, sacred space He placed the necklace around his shoulders He placed the kerchief round his brow He turned to sing the song of ages He turned to sing the song of blessings now He used the pollen for abundance He used the drum to open doors He used the cornmeal for renewal He danced and swayed across the floor He placed the larkspur on the buckskin He shook his rattle through the night He drummed his way across the river He sang the songs to reunite Now bless this one who is sung over Oh , Bless this one, we ask today Carry this soul across the river And bring her home in health we pray

Some other day Chris George I’m Tired of playin’ the loser Gonna break out of here I’m going to leave this town There won’t be no returning Gonna use high gear Won’t even make a sound I thought of comin’ round to say goodbye to you But we both know how that would play The thought of turnin’ round and seein’ your sweet face With talk about some other time some other day, some other day When daylight turns to midnight Won’t be round this town Won’t even leave my name The only way you’ll find me Is to hunt me down Won’t even look the same It ain’t the pain of knowin’ that you won’t return I always knew that I’d survive When the final piece of the puzzle fits It’s time to chase that rainbow and try to revive The greyhound leaves at sundown Driver don’t be late I’m headin’ west tonight Don’t use that brake foot heavy I won’t have to wait Who know what comes with light Don’t feel like hangin’ onto this loneliness I’d give it all up for free It ain’t that leaving’s going to cure this holy mess It’s just that when I’m moving I don’t think about me.

Fountain of Youth Author: Chris George “I’m going to protest growing old Slowing down and feeling cold Achy bones and achy back Hard of hearing and heart attacks No more wrinkles, no more creams, no more loss of self-esteem I’m going to boycott Geritol Beta blockers and Tylenol Doctor Visits, and MRI’s I’d trade them all to rejuvenize No more aging, no more shots, no more pain and no skin spots We’re going to rise up in one voice We want solutions, we want choice The golden years have lost their luster It’s beginning to feel a bit like Custer” No shrinking brain and no more falls No more body part recalls We’re out to find the fountain of youth We’ll carry signs and speak the truth Our numbers growing more each day One goal , one song, down with decay No more aging, no more shots, no more pain and no skin spots

Ballad of Sonny Ramone. By Chris George Can I shelter with you, I’m on the road, I’m in trouble too, They got some mean men coming, got some hurting overdue. They called him Sonny Ramone, a fighter from birth, father unknown He had a mean left jab that could cut to the bone He was a small draw, shorter than most, light on his feet, He had a powder keg temper that was blood red heat He had big dreams, Hollywood big, larger than life He wanted girls on the side and a trophy wife Chorus: Oh Sonny, What you gonna do? Oh Sonny, What you gonna do? Oh Sonny, what you gonna do? He was tough in the ring, knocked out a few, good footwork too, But he was going nowhere, And soon it’d all fall through, So when the fixer called, No questions he asked, No need to decline It was a shot at the title, Maybe this was his sign Take a dive in the third, make it look real, that was their deal The money’d be waiting, he wouldn’t get killed So this was his chance, He’d give it a run, he’d only have one What could they do if he’s the man who won. Oh Sonny, What you gonna do? Oh Sonny, what you gonna do? Oh Sonny, What you gonna do? Fight Day came, he got in the ring, A chance to be king His mean left jab was the final swing. Judges called it a draw , took points away, called it a day, So in the end the boys had the final say Now Sonny left town, just disappeared, nothing left here, He’s still waiting for the time when he wakes up with no fear. Can I Shelter with you, I’m on the road and I’m in trouble too, They got some mean men coming, got some hurting overdue. Refrain: Oh Sonny, What you gonna do? Oh Sonny , What you gonna do? Oh Sonny , What you gonna do?
