She wore a black dress With turquoise earrings and those sparkling eyes
I felt like such a mess Could barely say my name, I felt hypnotized

She seemed so self-assured Like the world could end tomorrow and she would still carry on
I felt so uninsured Like a knight in tinfoil before a battle at dawn

I gathered my emotions and stepped outside, I took a deep breath and tried to take it in stride

Girl I’ve got you in my head and I don’t know what to do
My mind is racing , I’m mesmerized and all I see is you

I ambled back inside, I asked her to dance and we strolled on the floor
She seemed preoccupied, Like she couldn’t quite remember what she came here for
And then a slow song played, Johnny Mathis crooned,I put my hand on her waist
Mars was in retrograde, and the look in her eyes said my hope was misplaced

I knew it wasn’t meant to be, I tried not to care, Dancing cheek to cheek with her perfume in the air
