I went walking down Russell Street, listening to the sound of my shuffling feet
I had no dinner, I had no dough, Maybe catch a ride to the bus depot
It’s been two days since I ate a meal, I’ve lost my steam , I feel surreal
My mind’s been blurry, not so sharp these days, I keep having’ dreams about big buffets

Have you got some alms for the poor, am I so easy to ignore
Do you greet me with goodwill, I’ve got a story that I tell, but the truth is sadder still

I showed promise as a kid, made mom proud with what I did
Three tours later, I’m not so sure, I’ve lost all sense of being secure
Life’s been tough since coming home, I drink too much and I’m all alone
Losing jobs and killing time, friends now lost that once were mine

Have you got some spare loose change? You look at me like I’m deranged
